Painting – Impressionist Landscape in Acrylics – WIP#2

Today in class we continued to work on our impressionist landscapes. This whole exercise is about learning how to work from real life or from your own sketch rather than from a photograph. We are also using tertiary colours, for example mixing our own yellow ochre rather than just using it from a tube. This has been a great exercise in colour mixing.

It was really interesting to see how each person’s work was so different even though we were all working from pretty much the same basis.

My teacher said to stop working on this now, and do another landscape, trying out some of the other techniques he has been showing us.

I’m going to have to go out and do some more plein air painting once my course is finished. I have really enjoyed the freedom of this exercise.
