Ceramics: Smudge in a Pot – work in progress

I felt the urge to paint something today, in particular to under glaze the kitten I made a few months ago. It is well and truly dry and has been sitting quietly in a box waiting for me to give it some colour. (Unlike my real cats who let me no in no uncertain terms if I have neglected them in any way!)

Underglazed cat2_webUnderglazed cat1_webI’ve gone a traditional tabby look – that realist in me can’t help itself. Although I think the under glazes will turn out quite differently to what they look like here – they always do. I may add a bit more darker colour to the fur, but I will sit and look at this for a day or so first before I decide.

The pot is glazed in Flame, so it will turn out redder than it looks here I think. And I have used a mix of colours for the cat including Black, Brown, Red, Blue and Reef Gold and a few other colours to mix to get the shades and tints I wanted.

The inside surfaces of the pot are not the tidiest so I will probably go back and sponge on another colour to try and hide some of the imperfections (although if I was really worried about imperfect work I’d have made the edges of the pot less wonky. But that is what comes with a hand built pot, or at least one made by me!)
