Soft Pastels: Kookaburra (work in progress #2)

I spent a little bit more time on this on Wednesday this week – now I just need to sit with it for a few days and decide what will finish this off or if anything needs changing.

Kookoburra_4_webI’m going to lighten up the background just behind the bird a bit and I think I need to push the tree branch back still. And just a few touches are needed on the feathers on its back, but not much.

I like photographing my work as I use it as a tool. I can see things that need fixing or that work when looking at a photo. I am able to be more objective than when I look at the actual work. Just looking at the photo whilst posting this blog entry has enabled me to see a couple of the things that need to be tweaked.

  1. I do like your handsome kookaburra! The eye in particular looks so life like..

    • Thanks Anna. If I don’t get the eye right, the rest of it won’t come together for me. I’ve continued working on some animals without getting the eye completely right first and I haven’t been able to get the finished piece how I wanted it. Funny that.
